Tucked away in the historic Germantown neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia, Awbury Arboretum is a vibrant landscape with a rich history. Once the private enclave of an extended Quaker family, Awbury Arboretum has been open to the public free of charge as a public park and arboretum for over 100 years. Its 56-acre historic landscape now stands as a green oasis in a densely populated urban environment.
Nature, history, and community intersect at Awbury, and the Awbury Arboretum Association is committed to stewarding the relationships between these three pillars of our mission, and continuing to tell its story.

The Cope House is home to Awbury’s administrative offices, as well a social event venue, workshops, dinners, wellness classes, and other community programs.
AdventureWoods is a natural materials playground space located in Awbury’s Secret Garden.
From gardening to goat walks, festivals, workshops, cooperative farming, and much more, there’s always more to discover at The Farm at Awbury.
Currently undergoing an exciting restoration, Awbury’s wetlands reflect the plan of landscape architect Arthur Cowell and connects to the Wingohocking Creek.
An arboretum is a type of botanical garden dedicated to the collection and study of “woody” plants (trees and shrubs). We like to tell the children who visit for our educational programs to think of an arboretum as a “tree museum.”
To be more specific, an arboretum is a place that has intentionally preserved specific trees and shrubs for educational and scientific purposes. At Awbury Arboretum, visitors are welcome to view and study the specimens in our plant collection at any time during open hours, free of charge. Awbury also provides educational classes and events for all ages with a mission to connect our community to the Arboretum’s landscape.
