Outdoor & Wilderness Leadership Skills (OWLS) Program for Teens
Wednesdays, April 7-May 26, 2021, 4:00-6:00pm
Students will learn leadership strategies, team building skills, first aid skills, familiarity with nature and the environment, and how to interact with and teach younger children. There will be one session with the Red Cross for first aid/CPR training. All classes will be outdoors, rain or shine, and COVID-19 precautions will be observed at all times.
Graduates of this program will leave with Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification, basic skills in active listening, conflict management, creating a safe emotional environment for children, emergency preparedness, designing a lesson or leading games for children, and basic outdoor skills. In the course of this program, students will create a resumé, find job references, and have several practice job interviews. 3-6 students from this course will be selected to serve as stipend-paid CITs at our Awbury Adventures Summer Camp.
Participants: High school students aged 14-18 years; 12 students maximum enrollment
Location: the Cope House, One Awbury Road
Fee: $250 for 8 weeks ($80 for scholarship rate)
(includes official Red Cross first aid/CPR training and certification)
Scholarships and a sliding fee scale are available.

Wilderness Survival Class for Kids
Tuesdays, April 6-May 11, 2021, 4:00-5:30PM
Come hone your outdoor survival skills! Learn whittling, shelter construction, fire building, first aid, and foraging! We will meet for an hour and a half every Tuesday after school, rain or shine. Be prepared to be outside the entire time, but contingency plans will be made if the weather is particularly bad. Bring your patience, your observation skills, and your sense of adventure!
Students and staff will observe COVID-19 restrictions of masks and social distancing.
Participants: children ages 8-12; 16 students maximum enrollment.
Registration is required.
Fee: $90 for 6 weeks
