BOARD CANDIDATE PROFILES

Michael Drennan

 
Michael Drennan would bring a range of expertise to the AAA Board. A resident of Bryn Mawr, he could contribute to AAA’s fundraising efforts, community relations, governance, and overall financial well being.  He recently completed seven years of service on the Board of the Philadelphia Orchard Project, the last two years as its Chair.  He has also volunteered with Philly Green, a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society effort to convert used city spaces into community gardens. He currently assists his wife in the operations of her horticulture business—Carolyn’s Shade Gardens.
 
Now retired, his professional experience was in investment management field where he held a number of senior management positions. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College.

Shanna Halpern

 
Shanna Halpern has  been on the Board since 2016, serving as the Secretary from 2019 to 2021 and as the Chair from 2021 to the present.  A resident of Mt Airy, she has contributed to virtually all aspects of the Board’s processes and procedures, and serves ex officio on all of the Board committees. Prior to joining the AAA Board she reviewed the entire AAA archives and wrote the Historical Walking Tour of AAA, still in use today.  She has also volunteered with a variety of social justice and women’s rights related nonprofits.
 
Now retired, her professional experience was in environmental studies, where she first worked as an attorney with the EPA, later taught full time as several universities and finally was the Director of the Center for Environmental Management at the ECRI Institute. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Barnard College and a JD from Boston University

 

Pauline Taylor

Pauline Taylor would bring a wealth of experience to the Awbury Arboretum Association (AAA) Board.  A long time Devon Place neighbor, she is a member of the Awbury Arboretum Neighbors Association and is very familiar with Awbury’s landscape and programs. She has been an engaged member of the AAA Finance Committee for several years and an active participant in AAA’s new Community Planning Committee. She recently completed her service on the board of Mt. Airy Learning Tree and is ready to devote her energies to Awbury.

Now retired, her professional experience was in Human Resources, an area of expertise that the board currently lacks. She also has strong organizational development skills, which Awbury also needs. Her Bachelor’s is from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and her Master’s is from the Fels Institute.
