Once Upon a Time…

In 2017, after more than a year of intensive landscape work, Awbury opened a revolutionary new public space – the first of its kind in Philadelphia.
AdventureWoods is a 4-acre natural materials playground housed behind the walls of the Arboretum’s Secret Garden. This one-of-a-kind environment provides children and families with myriad opportunities to explore, create, build, and learn together in nature. Since unveiling this new community resource, Awbury has worked to keep it staffed and
open to the public as many hours per week as possible. With current resources, we are able to open AdventureWoods from 9AM – 6PM on Wednesdays and from 10AM – 2PM on Saturdays.

We want to do more, but we need your help. Our goal for 2020 and 2021 is to expand current open hours by over 60% and engage hundreds of new community members with this invaluable resource. In addition to Wednesdays from 9AM – 6PM, we hope to open the gate from 9AM – 3PM every Saturday and Sunday from April – October. We also plan to offer regular programs in AdventureWoods – scavenger hunts, crafts, goat walks, art performances, and more!  Dedicated support of $8,500/year will make this possible.

Awbury is not part of Philadelphia’s municipal park system.
The generosity of friends like you enables us to offer free resources like AdventureWoods to our community.

We have already received a pledge of $4,625/year for 2020 and 2021.  We hope you will consider a donation to help us meet the remainder of our goal.
