Artist Lecture with Bonnie Levinthal
Wednesday, October 22nd | 6-7:30 PM | The Cope House Gallery, 1 Awbury Rd.
Representing Place with Suminagashi
Please join us for an artist lecture by Bonnie Levinthal, who will discuss how she has used suminagashi
(Japanese marbling) to respond to the remote places she travels to make her work. This lecture coincides with her exhibition The Far Side of the Sea at the Cope House Gallery. The exhibition features a body of work developed through Levinthal’s responses to place, completed both at home and during time spent in Greenland, Svalbard, and Ireland. Her paintings and works on paper explore light, weather, color, and atmosphere, using watercolor and acrylic, as well as processes that involve direct interaction with water, such as cyanotype and suminagashi.
