Notable Trees of West Mount Airy

October 21, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In celebration of Awbury Arboretum’s Year of Trees, join Tony Aiello for a tour of some of the oldest and most unusual trees of West Mount Airy.  In his professional life, Tony has grown, collected, and studied a diversity of tree species.  He has lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years and in his spare time has enjoyed studying its urban forest.  From towering oaks that pre-date the development of the neighborhood to more unusual street and yard trees, this tour will provide insight into the natural history of the tree canopy that surrounds us.

Location: CW Henry School, at the corner of Green St and Carpenter Lane.  There is some street parking but additional parking can be found at the Henry School lot, which is on Carpenter Lane, close to Sherman St. (basically at the far end of Henry School from where we are meeting.)

Price: $15, Register below

Anthony Aiello is Associate Director,  Collections at Longwood Gardens, where he participates in tree conservation, plant exploration and evaluation, and collections development.  Previously he served for over 20 years as the Director of Horticulture and Curator at the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, where he has managed the Morris Arboretum’s historic gardens and living collections.
