During AdventureWoods open public hours on 4/24, Let’s Go Outdoors will be reading aloud Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson. Resister in advance to take home your own copy!
Two sessions: 10:00 – 11:30 AM and 12:30 – 2:00 PM
This program is part of the eighth annual Longwood Gardens’ Community Read– a program designed to encourage reading for pleasure and start a conversation. Each year, one book is selected for an adult audience and one is selected for younger readers. This year the selection for younger readers is Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson.
About the book: In this delightful story, a little girl discovers her spark– birds– in her own city neighborhood. They enliven her world and excite her about nature. Her own journey begins.
While all are welcome to join us for story time, we welcome you to register ahead of time to receive a free copy of the book that day! Registration is limited to 24 children, one book per family, please. Please use the form below. The book’s target audience is children 3-7 year old.
Additional activities will be offered including a short bird hike.
Cost: Free
Location: AdventureWoods, in the Secret Garden at Awbury Arboretum. Please park on Ardleigh St (near 6060 Ardleigh St) and follow signs to the Secret Garden entrance.
There is no rain date for this event, although we will arrange book pick-up for those who have registered.
Let’s Go Outdoors has a mission to Connect City Communities to Outdoor Experiences! They do this through using our diverse team of educators to work throughout Philadelphia and other areas to engage children, families, and adults in nature awareness activities, environmental programs, recreation, and learning opportunities. They can be found doing this at schools, parks/greenspaces/centers, community events, local partner sites like Awbury Arboretum, or via consultative/private work with other organizations.
