Taking care of you! Wellness Classes at the Farm at Awbury

Join  the new Awbury Wellness team led by Megan Do Nascimento for Outdoor Classes at the Awbury Farm/Agricultural Village!

All classes will be held at 6336 Ardleigh Street. Please park on Ardleigh and walk into the farm. Click here for directions.

 

Please bring your own mat, water bottle, and mask. Social distancing of 6 feet apart will be observed and masks must be worn unless you are on your mat. Restrooms are not available at this time. Thank you for participating in keeping everyone healthy by following these guidelines. 

If there is rain classes will be canceled.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Start your morning with an all-levels yoga class that links breath and movement to leave you both grounded and invigorated for the day ahead.

Family Yoga – Two Sundays from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM  August 9th and 23rd ONLY

Spend some quality time connecting with your child through a fun and playful yoga journey! We’ll learn individual and partner poses through songs and storytelling, all while building confidence, creativity, and strong healthy bodies. Children and parents will practice how to center themselves through breathing and relaxation. This class is designed for families with kiddos aged 3-8, but anyone is welcome

Sarah Charlesworth Attie completed vinyasa-based teacher training at Blue Banyan, prenatal/postnatal yoga certification through Prenatal Yoga Center in NYC, and children’s yoga teacher training with Radiant Child Yoga. Sarah’s teaching style focuses on creating both integrity and freedom of movement in the physical body, cultivating the mind-body-breath connection, and deepening self-knowledge. She uses a creative and accessible approach to meet students wherever they are. “We practice today so that we can practice tomorrow.”

FULL BODIED: Yoga in Bigger Bodies
 
This class, is open to all but focuses on providing a guided practice that is accessible to bigger bodies. Join Jess as she guides a gentle, grounding practice that will help you see why yoga truly is for everybody.

Jessica Rodriguez Becker lives in Germantown with her family. She’s been a Philly resident since 1999 but was born and raised in NYC and is of Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Indigena/Latinx descent. Her  parents were born in Puerto Rico (the island originally called Borinquen) and she feels most at home near the equator. She is a mother, host, sister, wife, lover, aunt, connector, listener, daughter, helper, and friend.  She’s a writer, specifically in love with poetry and poetic prose, a Spanish teacher, a lover of art and music and a woman committed to local and household activism. She’s a student and a big fan of books. She loves her blackness, her Caribbean-ness, her womanhood, her sisterhood, and her mother-heart. She loves her friendship and her advocacy. Jessica was led to a yoga practice and in turn remembered a deep love for herself and her body. She loves to be part of the liberating journey that practicing yoga inspires in others, especially those who have been excluded and invisibilized in modern capitalist structures. She is committed to bringing healing mindfulness and embodiment work to folks who identify as fat, disabled, queer, black and brown and she is always on a journey of decolonizing both her practice and her mind

Gentle Morning Yoga Flowall levels 

Gentle Yoga classes are a great place to take it slower, and still experience all the benefits of yoga. Classes focus on releasing tension, connecting with the breath and helping students gain strength and flexibility. Gentle yoga uses classical hatha postures with slight variations to accommodate all levels of yoga students.

Megan Do Nascimento is a breast cancer survivor and yoga instructor known for her outgoing personality and inclusive teaching style. She has taught in the Philadelphia prisons, the school district, Magee Rehabilitation Hospital and various fitness centers in the area. She routinely donates her time and skills to those without easy access to yoga, most recently traveling to Matamoros, Mexico, to teach classes to refugees seeking asylum in the United States.

Fine Fettle Fitness – all levels
 
Light to moderate functional fitness strength training class that combines all of your favorite aspects of fitness and puts them into one solid workout!
We will work on slowly improving overall flexibility, balance, cardio endurance, and core muscle tone with a great mix of movement that will be mixed up with every class!
Bring a mat, bring mask, bring water, bring your best and bring a friend. I will meet you where you are. All experience levels welcomed.
 
Denine Kirby is a health and wellness professional who is truly distinctive! As an author, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, she is professional, knowledgeable, and caring to all under her direction. She teaches and leads a variety of fitness classes and self-care workshops within the Philadelphia area. Denine is described as an affable, caring, engaging, and passionate professional. Denine delivers entertaining, yet safe and effective routines that prove to challenge your muscles and improve your cardiovascular system. You will breathe, sweat, sing, and have fun while training the total body, mind, and soul. Her skills, tremendous energy and perseverance are valued assets that are infectiousmotivating you to achieve all your health and fitness goals. Denine Kirby is a certified fitness professional and has 10 years’ experience as a group fitness instructor, small group trainer, Spinning® instructor,  ACSM personal trainer, and coach, Yoga instructor, NASE speed specialist, Women’s Hormonal Holistic Health Consultant, and serves as a health & wellness advocate through her business, Delna Wellness. She has been interviewed and featured on BlackAmericaWeb.com, 96.1 FM WURD Radio,92.9 FM Germantown Radio, and was recognized with Best Toning Workout by PhillyFit Magazine and the Women of Style and Substance Award by Joan Shepp. Denine has presented at fitness conferences, Philly Dance Day, and several senior/older adult events including SenatorVincent Hughes Age Strong Live LongSenior Program & Expo.   In addition to serving as a Community Health Worker in North Philadelphia, she can be found teaching classes at SMART Fitness and the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Afro-House – all levels

Afro-House is a fusion class mixed with Traditional West African and House Dance movement vocabulary. This class is a mixed level class designed to increase cardio, strengthen abdominal muscles while moving your body to a funky beat. Sneakers/ tennis shoes must be worn in this class.

 Antoinette M. Coward-Gilmore is the Founder, CEO & Artistic Director of Danse4Nia, a contemporary modern dance company/ performing arts organization based in Germantown. Antoinette is a graduate from University of the Arts & New York University receiving both BFA & MA in Dance Education & Performance. As an Equity Artist, professionally Antoinette performed with Freedom Repertory Theater, LEJA Dance Theater, Philadanco II, Founding Member of Eleone Dance Theater, Forces of Nature Dance Theater, Rod Rodgers Dance Company and countless others.
 Working in both concert dance & musical theater, Antoinette is a board-certified NYC dance educator, adjunct professor of Dance at Drexel University and has a long resume of teaching, training, choreographing and consulting with numerous arts institutions, theaters and schools.  Antoinette is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and sits on many grant panels and arts committees. 

 

 

Saturdays 9:00 – 10:00 AM – NO CLASS AUGUST 8TH

Zumba– all levels

Zumba Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitness party atmosphere. While many of the types of dance and music featured in the program are Latin American inspired, classes can also contain everything from jazz to African beats to country to hip-hop and pop.

Maria Rowe is a licensed Zumba Instructor and has been teaching Zumba for more than 9 years. She has taught Zumba with LA Fitness at the Andorra, Bala Cynwyd, Cheltenham, and King of Prussia locations, and is currently teaching at the Salvation Army Kroc Center.  Her classes are full of energy and fun like a party!  She enjoys putting smiles on people’s faces through Zumba.
