Visiting Awbury: COVID-19 Updates

updated 5/12/20

In response to the current public health crisis related to COVID-19, the Cope House, Education Center, Arboretum offices, and AdventureWoods are closed until further notice.

The grounds of Awbury remain open daily from sunrise to sunset, and, as always, free.  We welcome you and your household to visit and enjoy the beauty of spring!

If you choose to visit, please remember:

  • ■ Maintain at least 6 feet of space between you and the people around you on trails throughout the landscape, in the parking lot, or anywhere else on our grounds.
  • ■ If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, please stay home and schedule a different time to visit the grounds.
  • ■ No restrooms will be available, so make sure you have made the necessary pit stops before you visit.
  • ■ As always, keep your dogs on leash and remember to clean up after them.

The Awbury staff had been creating and highlighting activities individuals and families with children can do at the Arboretum to provide some exercise and fun during this unusual period. Check out these resources and activities:

Self-guided Walking Tours – including tours highlighting our historic grounds, our favorite trees, and our Agricultural Village.

Birding Resources

Scavenger Hunt

iNaturalist – use this app to take photos of plants and animals – at the Arboretum or in your own backyard – while you learn about nature and create valuable data for scientists!

Pollination At-Home Lesson – activities for indoors and outdoors

Submit a Poem – our poetry contest is closed, but you welcome to submit your poem for us to read at any time

Alphabet challenge – try to find something at Awbury for each letter of the alphabet! A is for ant, B is for bud, C is for creek…

“Who Lives Here?” Guessing Game – learn to spot animal habitats

Out of concern for the health and safety of our community during this global pandemic, Awbury Arboretum has canceled or postponed all of our upcoming programs (with the exception of the BioBlitz).

If you were registered for an upcoming program or class, you should have received an email with details. For the latest on our programming, visit our Events page, and check our our weekly e-newsletter, for which you can sign up here.
