Honoring Judy Wicks

Judy Wicks is an activist, author, and entrepreneur who pioneered the local food movement as owner of legendary White Dog Café in West Philly from 1983 to 2010. Concurrently and beyond, she launched multiple influential non-profit initiatives that support the growth of regional economies and the expansion of sustainable business practices, including Fair Food, the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, the nationwide Business Alliance for Local Living Economies BALLE (now called Common Future), All Together Now PA, and the PA Fibershed. Judy’s work has earned numerous local and national awards, including the Impact Award for Economic Justice from Social Venture Network, Women Chefs and Restaurateurs Lifetime Achievement Award, and the James Beard Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award. Judy was inducted into the University Science Center’s Innovators Walk of Fame in 2016.
