Awbury Youth 2000

Awbury Youth 2000 (AY2K), the Arboretum's job training and environmental program for area teens, currently has 10 students enrolled. They are meeting every other Saturday through June 2nd.

Andy Jickling, the program's coordinator, in conjunction with various guest teachers, is leading activities that teach the students about invasive species, native trees, pruning techniques, notable Awbury trees, backyard conservation, herbs, annuals, and perennials.

Students work at removing invasive vines, caring for young trees in Awbury's nursery, digging up some of these saplings to sell in the spring, and leading tours of the nursery and other parts of the Arboretum.

We also anticipate having a summer program (for the 6th year) for area teens through the school district's Youth Works program. Students opt to continue working on landscape projects or as assistant nature guides, working with the education staff.

For more information about AY2K, please phone the Arboretum at (215) 849-2855 or email awbury@awbury.org
