Water issues

Make your yard a haven for wildlife by providing:

Shelter
Animals need a safe place to raise their young and escape from predators all year

  • Plant evergreen trees and shrubs for shelter during the winter when other plants have shed their leaves

Food
Native plant species provide the best food sources for wildlife. They may sip nectar from flowers, eat berries, nuts, leaves, or even twigs

  • Plant species that flower and fruit at different times to provide food all year

  • Make or hang bird feeders and houses to attract a variety of birds to your yard

Water
Clean, fresh water is just as important to birds, butterflies, bats, and other wildlife as it is to people

  • Provide a shallow source of water near shelter. In winter, keep the water free of snow and ice
