En Plein Air is a french expression that literally translates as “in the open air”. It has generally been associated with the Impressionist painters of the late 1800′s. Impressionists espoused the belief that you should trust your eyes…Making art is all about choices, paying attention to what interests and intrigues you, and, and this is very important – what to leave out. Because you can’t capture everything you see.
This workshop is about creating a safe place to create in a serene, peaceful and stimulating environment. There is so much to see when you are in a garden, and no two people see things in the same way.
Each participant will sculpt and paint a 6″ x 6″ tile based on what they choose to look at. All materials are provided, including clay, underglaze, tools, and seating. Tiles will be fired at Karen Singer’s Germantown studio and returned to Awbury for pickup in about 3 – 4 weeks after the workshop.Bring a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and an open mind.
